Arrival in the historic center of Venice (Centro storico)
We arrived by train at the station Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia directly at the Grand Canal and changed into one of the boats of the public transport (ACTV).
Opposite the station, on the other side of the Grand Canal is the church San Simeone Piccolo
The Grand Canal is the largest canal in Venice and meanders like a snake through the old town. Many small and medium-sized boats populate the canal, in between one can see again and again small gondolas, which seem to be very popular with tourists.
Rialto Bridge
In the center of the historic old town, the Rialto Bridge spans the Grand Canal
San Polo
On the northern side of the Rialto Bridge is the district of San Polo, one of the oldest parts of Venice.
On Campo dei Frari is the Roman Catholic church Chiesa di San Rocco. A so-called plague church built in the years 1489-1508
In San Polo there are many winding streets with many bridges over small canals. You can just enjoy yourself and have something to discover at almost every corner. Especially at night when most day tourists have left the city.
Market close to Rialto Bridge
Between Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco
The campo san salvador is located not far from the rialto bridge in the district of San Marco and takes its name from the church of san salvador that overlooks it. Interesting is the metal sculpture of a dragon holding three umbrellas with his mouth.
Piazza San Marco
St. Mark's Square (Italian: Piazza San Marco) is the most important and famous square in Venice and is located in the south at the San Marco basin. Ît is also one end of the Grand Canal
On the quay of the Doge's Palace
Ponte dei Sospiri - Bridge of Sighs
Castello
In the Castello district, on the Rio Greci canal, there is the homonymous Greek Orthodox church of San Giorgio dei Greci, built in the 16th century.
Arsenale di Venezia
Arsenal is the name of the shipyard, and the naval base of the former Republic of Venice. Founded as a state shipyard in the 12th century, the Arsenal developed over centuries into the largest ship factory in the world.
East of Castello
The eastern part of Castello is one of the quieter and lesser known parts of Venice. Drying clothes is a common sight here....
Rio dei Mendicanti
In the north of Castello there is the canal Rio dei Mendicanti. On the canal there is the church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, (San Zanipolo), a Dominican monastery church.
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is located in the north of the historic city center and is the most densely populated part of Venice.
Santa Maria dei Miracoli
Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a church in the Cannaregio district and is located in the very charming Campo Santa Maria Nova square.
Way to Murano
We took the ferry from Cannaregio to Murano. The ferry from F. te Nove "B" to Murano Da Mula.
Rio dei Vetrai, Murano
Murano belongs to Venice and is a group of islands northeast of the old city. The place is known for its glass art. Along the canal Rio dei Vetrai, in addition to the many glass art stores, you can also settle in nice coffee shops.
San Pietro Martire, Murano
On the Rio dei Vetrai canal is the Archpriestly Church of San Pietro Martire, built in 1348.
Torre dell'Orologio - Murano
The clock tower of Murano is located on Campo San Stefano on the canal Rio dei Vetrai
